Most outdoor lighting in our region falls into one of two camps. Christmas-only seasonal operators, who appear in November and disappear in January. Or single-category installers who only do permanent lights. Neither matches what we wanted to build.
Designed-first.
The North Star Lighting Co. is a full-service outdoor lighting company, year-round, designer-led. We design and install five categories of work: permanent outdoor lighting, landscape lighting, structural and architectural lighting, aerial moonlighting, and Christmas. The same crew runs all five. The same phone number answers when you call about any of them.
We started the company because most of our favorite work, the moonlighting in mature oaks, the architectural facade lighting on a stone elevation, the layered landscape design that makes a hardscape patio actually feel composed at night, was not getting done in our region at the level it deserved. The volume was going to operators who do one thing in one season, or who treat lighting as an accessory rather than a craft.
Local matters.
Every member of our crew lives in Placer County or right next to it. We are in your neighborhood every week, not driving in for one job. The trucks know the back routes between Rocklin and Granite Bay because we use them. The crew knows what HOA design review looks like in Whitney Oaks and Serrano because we have walked it.
Maintenance during the Christmas season is a real promise because we are minutes away. Service calls in February for permanent installs are answered the same week because the system is on file and the technician who installed it is the technician who returns to fix it. Continuity is part of the product.
How we approach a project.
Every project begins with a free site walk at dusk. We listen first, propose second. We take the architecture, the landscape plan if there is one, and how you actually use the property as the inputs. The lighting plan follows from there. We will not over-light. We will not under-light a feature you care about. We will not specify a fixture we are not comfortable warrantying.
Pricing is honest. Scope is in writing. Schedule is committed. If something on the project changes, we tell you. If something on our end runs late, we tell you that too. We have lost a small number of jobs because we will not match a number from an operator we know is going to install the wrong fixture, and we are at peace with that.
Licenses and insurance.
The North Star Lighting Co. carries general liability and workers’ compensation insurance. CSLB licensure is in process and will be reflected here when issued. COI is available on request for residential or commercial accounts. We will walk you through what is in our policy as part of any proposal.
The service area.
We serve Greater Placer County: Rocklin, Roseville, Granite Bay, Lincoln, Loomis, Auburn, and Penryn, plus El Dorado Hills, Folsom, and Cameron Park to the south. If your property is just outside that footprint, call us. We extend further for the right project.
